Vivekananda College Central Library started its journey since the inception of college in 1950. The Central Library is situated on the second floor of the Arts and Commerce building. Library being the heart of any academic institution, it aims to provide all the essential services to its patrons. The college library reflects a fascinating combination of tradition and modernity. It houses about 45,000 books on various subjects -literature, history, philosophy, science, social science, commerce and management and so on. Another glorious part of our library is that it boasts of a number of very old manuscripts in Sanskrit literature as well as rare books in English and Bengali literature, history and philosophy. There is a special collection and a good number of reference books in the library collection. Very recently, the library system became automated by Koha LMS and facilitates the patron with web-OPAC services. With the advent of ICT, libraries are no longer confined within the four walls. E-resources nowadays are equally essential to facilitate the patrons going beyond the physical space of the library and to provide seamless service. So, subscription to NLIST service (e-resources through INFLIBNET) and eBooks subscription to Oxford University Press have been initiated by our college library. There is another point to be highlighted that there is a spacious Reading Room in Central Library having the capacity to accommodate 150 students to read at a time providing full open access system.
